The Regional Hospital Mullingar new Minor Injury Unit located in the Charter Medical Private Hospital, Ballinderry, Mullingar has announced that they will be accepting patients from Monday, 7th November 2022.
Patients who attend this public service will be charged a fee of €75 – which is less than the €100.00 fee charged if they were to attend an Emergency Department.
There is no charge for patients who have Medical Card or who have a referral letter from either their General Practice or from the ED.
Waiting times for patients who attend Minor Injury Units are significantly less than those who may have to wait in busy Emergency Departments while more acutely ill patients are triaged as a priority. The average time to be seen and discharged in an Injury Unit is under two hours.
Patients who experience a minor injury and who should attend an Injury Unit are as follows:
Suspected broken bones to arm
Suspected broken bones in legs
Sprains and strains
Wounds, bites (animal or insect), cuts, grazes & scalp laceration
Minor burns & scalds
Foreign bodies
Minor chest injuries
People from Mullingar and the surrounding areas, aged 16 and over will now be able to attend the unit 7 days a week. Opening hours are as follows:
- Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm
- Saturday and Sunday 10:00am to 6:00pm
- Closed on Bank Holidays
