Ericsson to hire 250 new staff in Athlone

I am delighted that Ericsson has increased its investment in Athlone and have announced 250 new roles will be added at its R&D Campus in Athlone.

These highly skilled roles in software development, engineering and cloud technologies are a very welcome development for the region. The jobs will be based at the Irish Research and Development Centre for Ericsson in Athlone to support 5G growth and continued investment in Cloud Technologies.

As the agency with responsibility for attracting Foreign direct investment, the IDA Ireland strong support and partnership with international companies has led to important investments in our regions like the Ericsson announcement. This expansion reaffirms the Midlands as a centre of excellence in the ICT sector and cloud technology.

The company has been in Athlone for more than 40 years and currently employs 1200 workers at its midlands base. Ericsson has a well-established presence in Athlone and its continued success and investment in its R&D Campus is testament to the fact that Westmeath, and indeed the Midlands as a whole is a great place to do business.

I want to wish the staff in Ericsson all the very best in this exciting new chapter.
