I was delighted to see my local National School of Brigid’s Ballynacargy representing Westmeath in the Aviva Stadium for the SPAR FAI Primary School 5’s National Finals
Congratulations to the Brigid’s Ballynacargy NS team and the organisers for a fantastic sporting initiative – with over 55,000 primary school students taking part in the programme this year.
The Ballynacargy girls represented Westmeath and Leinster in the Girls Only, Small Schools competition, where they came up against schools from Galway, Clare and Donegal.
Republic of Ireland Manager Stephen Kenny was also joined by Republic of Ireland footballer, Louise Quinn and former international footballer, David Meyler to present the girls with medals.
SPAR FAI Primary School 5s
Following feedback from schools in relation to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, The FAI have taken the decision along with their partners SPAR to approach the SPAR FAI Primary School 5s differently this year.
The goal is to provide every child in 4th, 5th and 6th class in your school the opportunity to participate in football.
Under the new format, schools are asked to run their own 5-a-side competitions for pupils in their school, removing the need for schools and teachers to travel to play fixtures.
