Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Transport, Tourism and Sport Robert Troy TD says Minister Ross has completely failed public transport passengers in Dublin following another week of traffic chaos for commuters.
Deputy Troy made the comments after Luas passengers were left stranded at stops due to overcrowded services while Dublin Bus users had to deal with significant delays across a range of routes.
Deputy Troy said, “Public transport services in Dublin City are currently in a shambles. Dublin Bus passengers have been experiencing significant delays for many months now and Luas users have seen a significant deterioration with their service since the opening of Luas Cross City.
“It’s nothing short of a disgrace that a proper traffic management plan wasn’t devised and put in place prior to the opening of Luas Cross City. The National Transport Authority and Transport Infrastructure Ireland have serious questions to answer. Ultimately the responsibility for this shambles lies firmly with Minister for Transport Shane Ross.
“It’s enraging to see Minister Ross posting Tweet’s of himself enjoying his time on the London Underground earlier this week while passengers back home in Dublin are struggling to cope with unreliable services across all public transport. Minister Ross should take the Luas and experience the transport chaos first hand. Furthermore, his Fine Gael colleagues in Government should put pressure on the Transport Minister to resolve the chaos.
“The capacity and reliability issues on the Luas Green line need to be addressed, but we also need to see action to help alleviate the growing problems being experienced by Dublin Bus passengers. The north quays are a choke point in particular, but despite this there seems to be little enforcement of the bus lane restrictions. This is compounding the problem.
“Public transport services in Dublin are deteriorating. There needs to be accountability for this mess, and the onus is on Minister Ross to set out just what exactly he is doing to resolve the issue.”
